ELK PERFORMANCE AUTO SUPERCHARGER BELT TENSIONER
INSTALLATION GUIDE
ELK PERFORMANCE BELT TENSIONER MOUNTED
ELK PERFORMANCE Vortech* Supercharger Belt Tensioner Installation Instructions

1. Insert the supplied 3/4” inch bolt through the large hole in the Elk Performance belt tensioner.

2. Using a 3/4” inch socket attach the Elk Performance belt tensioner to the supercharger using the open bolt hole above the Vortech tensioner / idler pulley bracket. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN, ONLY HAND

3. Adjust the 1/2” inch adjuster bolt on the tensioner so the lower edge of the Elk Performance tensioner is parallel with the upper edge of the Vortech tensioner / idler pulley bracket. Make sure the lower locking nut is about midway up the bolt and not down against the Elk Tensioner.

4. While holding the Elk Tensioner with downward pressure, tighten down the large 3/4” inch bolt that attaches the Elk Tensioner to the supercharger, and then tighten to 35 Foot Pounds using a torque wrench.

5. Loosen the (2) 3/4” inch bolts and the thin head 18mm bolt holding the Vortech belt tensioner / idler pulley.

6. Using a 1/2” inch socket or wrench tighten the adjuster bolt on the Elk Tensioner until the belt is tightened to your desired or the manufacturers recommended tension.

NOTE: ** Severely over tightening the belt may lead to premature supercharger bearing or crankshaft bearing failure.

7. While holding the upper bolt head on the adjuster nut, tighten the lower locking nut against the Elk Tensioner. Now your ELK Tensioner is fully installed.

8. Lastly, tighten the (2) 3/4-inch bolts and the thin head 18mm bolt holding the Vortech belt tensioner/Idler pulley to the supercharger.

9. FEEL THE POWER AND ENJOY!!!!!!

NOTE: ** Check belt tension frequently and adjust as necessary to optimize the power output of your supercharger system.

Installation Instructions: ST-2006 Strut Tower Brace ( ’03 Cobra)

  1. Disconnect the battery to avoid grounding.
  2. Remove the plastic shroud that covers the wiper motor on the firewall:
    1. Remove the rubber weatherstrip.
    2. Remove the (3) wiper cowl-to-wiper motor cover push fittings.
    3. Remove the (7) wiper motor cover-to-firewall bolts.
    4. Remove wiper motor shroud.

     3.   Raise the front of the vehicle to gain access to the strut tower from the inside of the fender well.

     4.   Trial fit brace – mark strut tower brace-to-firewall bolt holes

A/C lines may have to be tie wrapped out of the way.

5.   Using a 5/16” drill, drill the holes marked on the firewall.

  1. Trial fit the brace again using 5/16”x1 ฝ” bolts to hold the brace (push the bolts in the holes only. Do not tighten with nuts at this time). Mark strut tower brace-to-strut tower bolt holes.
  2. Using a 3/8” drill, drill the holes marked on strut tower.
  3. Attach the Strut Tower Brace to the strut tower using the supplied 3/8x1 ฝ” bolts washers and nuts. For ease of installation, it is recommended that all bolts are started before tightening.
  4. Attach the Strut Tower Brace to the firewall using the 5/16x 1 ฝ” bolts, washers, and nuts.
  5. Trial fit the wiper motor cover and mark where trimming needed to clear the strut tower brace. Trim the shroud and replace.
